A new addition to Kronen Gaard

We’re building for the future – and we look forward to taking you along for the ride

We can’t wait!

In 2028, we’ll be opening the doors to our new Swiss-style villa with 73 new hotel rooms at Kronen Gaard Hotel.

This is something we’ve been looking forward to and working toward for many years, and now we’re finally getting started. Leading up to opening day, we’d like to take you along on the journey, from the first steps on the site until we can welcome our very first guests through the doors.

On this page, we’ll be sharing updates, big and small, from the construction process as it unfolds.

Where will the new Swiss-style villa be built?

The new Swiss-style villa is being built next to the current Kronen Gaard Hotel.

To make room for the new building, we’ve said goodbye to Villa Sygni and the old garage that used to stand on this part of the property.

A brand-new addition to Kronen Gaard will be built here, while the hotel and its history that you already know and love will remain unchanged.

What does the construction period mean for you as a guest?

Even though there are many exciting things happening right next door, life at Kronen Gaard continues as usual.

The practical change for our guests is that the parking lot and main entrance have been moved to the other side of the hotel.

We’ll do our best to make it easy to find your way and ensure there’s clear signage along the way.

Preserving the Heart of Kronen Gaard

While we are incredibly excited about what’s to come, it’s important to us that Kronen Gaard remains Kronen Gaard.

The spirit, history, and operations of the hotel will continue as before. The new building will be an addition to the current hotel and not a replacement for it.

When the new Swiss-style villa is completed in 2028, we’ll have more rooms and new opportunities, while still preserving what has made Kronen Gaard the place it is today.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and look forward to sharing the journey with you as we work toward 2028.

Latest update

Backe is the general contractor for the project and will oversee the construction through to completion in 2028.

Initial work on the site is now underway, with Lindanger Maskin handling the demolition of Villa Sygni and the old garage. At the same time, our arborist Oluf is on site to remove the trees that need to be cut down and, just as importantly, to protect and preserve the trees we want to keep.

We look forward to seeing the new hotel take shape, while preserving the history and unique character that make Kronen Gaard the place it is today.
